If you have hens that won't lay eggs, and you don't really want a rooster to fertilize them. Get a dud rooster (one that is unable to fertilize). The hens will lay more eggs to empress the rooster. So if your chickens aren't laying as much eggs as they used to, it is most likely because your rooster died (that is if you had a rooster before hand).
